Minutes of the Board of Directors Meeting
of the San Clemente Men's Golf Club

Thursday  June 8th, 2021
at the residence of President Kurt Luebke




CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order at 4:02 pm pm at the residence of President Kurt Luebke.

PRESENT:

President Kurt Luebke    David Hamdorf - 1st Vice President

MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING:
Dave H. moved to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. Nick seconded and the motion passed.

TREASURER'S REPORT ( Dave Hamdorf for Jeff Hooper )

    The Treasurer's Report for the month ended 5/31/21 was presented to the Board. For the most recent report, the following information was shared:
  • Checking account balance as of 5/31/2021 = $44,773
  • Savings account balance as of 5/31/2021 = $2,004
  • Total Income for the month of May = $1,016
  • Total Expenses for the month of May = $4,388
  • Net Profit/(Loss) for May = ($3,372)

MOTION: Approval of the report tabled until numerical correction made

HANDICAP REPORT (Steve Crowly)

  • Steve C. mentioned that the new GHIN app will have GPS for course yardages shortly.

RULES (Ed Pernal):

No information to report

MEMBERSHIP REPORT (Frank Schneider)

  • We are now at 821 members with 231 associate members (and 15 junior members included in that total).

GREENS REPORT & REPORT OF CITY GOLF ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING (Nick Azzollini):

  • Greens which were recently aerated have been growing in well.
  • Four eucalyptus trees will be removed due to beetle infestation.
  • Course/City is currently interviewing people for Marshall positions,Jordan said he has four prospects for the grounds crew (he is currently understaffed).
  • Bunkers currently have rakes in them. Nick suggested that we talk to the pro shop about reminding golfers somehow (signs?) that bunkers need to be raked.
  • Ed suggested that we ask the course to rake the traps on the days of Men's Club tournaments, if possible (presuming they are only raked by the City once/week).

REPORT OF CITY GOLF ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING (Nick Azzolini)

  • : No meeting until August.

WEDNESDAY TOURNAMENT (Kurt Luebke)

June 2nd, 2-Man Scramble
119 players, 56 players paid (47%) with an actual payout of $2,340 ($20 under target)

FRIDAY TOURNAMENT (David Hamdorf)

May 21st, 4-Ball Championship
95 players, 62 players paid (65%) with an actual payout of $1,940 ($40 over target

SATURDAY TOURNAMENT (Jeff Remmele)

May 8th, Individual Stroke Play
73 players, 50 paid (68%) with an actual payout of $1,465 ($5 over target)
Jeff mentioned that there have been up to 10 players each tournament not showing up for their Saturday tee times. These players will be tracked going forward.

OLD BUSINESS:

    Follow-up on the memorandum from the City:
  • A group of Board members met at the course to discuss proposed revisions to send back to the City.
  • Kurt sent our proposed changes on June 3rd and we have yet to hear back.
  • Follow-up on the scholarship to Saddleback:
  • Recipient requested to defer proceeds. Jeff suggested that we set a time limit of four years after conclusion of high school for funds to be used.
  • Still waiting to hear back from the City regarding the OK on their end for possible installation of a Men's Club donated, two-sided clock.

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Club Championship currently has a long waiting list.
  • A group of Board members met at the course to discuss proposed revisions to send back to the City.
  • A reminder that all players will be play the blue tees.
  • It has not yet been determined whether or not there will be a cut, depending on tee times available
  • Reminder to put NO CART signs back on course.
  • Also suggestion to put stickers or placards inside golf carts, along with a sign at pro shop desk, if possible.

MOTION: There being no further business a motion to adjourn was made by Kurt, seconded by Frank at 5:06 pm. Motion passed.

Next meeting is scheduled for July 13th, 2021.
